Week #10 - Jackie - Depth

Happy last blog post and happy finals week to everyone!

This week my post is on depth since accidentally did the obsession one during week 8.

Anyways, we have been having very foggy mornings and nights here in Orange County for the past few weeks and it throws me off every time I see it. I have been taking some cool, but blurry, pictures of the fog that makes everything look spooky.

As I was walking to the Mesa parking structure, I noticed how heavy the fog looked and how everything that was at a distance looked deeper than before especially because objects that were not within 10-15 feet looked blurry or blended in the dark.

In the first picture, you can see the intense beams of light from the walkway lamps illuminating everything on the path. You can barely make anything out past another bright beam in the background.

In the second picture, there are some students walking around Mesa Court, they look like shadow figures with heavy backlight on them while things that were in front of me such as the plant and bridge columns presented way more detail than say the trees a little further away. Depth sheds light on the subject that is front and center rather than taking the entire picture or objects in the distance into consideration. Moreover, we get lost in the darkness presented in the background and start to let our mind wonder about what is not being directly lit.

Depth is able to manipulate the space by making things seem deeper or farther than where they really are which is neat! It can also add dimension to 2D or flat looking scenes or drawings.
