Week #8 - Lu - Cats in Depth

 

It’s about time I make another cat post for the blog. I made a quick stop at my home in LA this weekend and made a few observations. First, that my mom completely skips thanksgiving and starts putting up the Christmas decorations as soon as we get to mid November, and second, that my cats really enjoy the Christmas vibes. I wanted to share these two pictures because I think they’re fun and they show depth in different ways. Margarita (grey), Sultan (black), and Mustard (yellow) are three of my cats that were very entertained by all the decorations around the house, only the sound of a car approaching was able to make them stop and stare at the window, trying to see what was happening outside. I took the first picture as they were still looking outside and the second when I called them and they all turned around in different directions. 


Especially in the first picture, I enjoy how peaceful it looks. Although we can see a little bit of the Christmas decorations in the background, the amber and yellow tones still give those fall vibes. It looks and feels like a warm and cozy November afternoon. Given that the cats were standing right in front of the window, it’s clear that that is the main source of light. However, I think that the sunlight is hitting each cat in a different way, or at least I think it reflects differently on each one. Especially in the first picture, the light on Margarita (grey cat) looks a lot more warm to me than how it looks on the two cats behind her. I assume this is because of the specific angle in which the light is coming in and the angle and placement of each cat on the line? To me, the black and yellow cat look a lot cooler than the grey cat. I also like how clearly we can see a bunch of different colors, reflections, and glow on Margarita’s eyes. I think they resemble a little bit, the details of the blurred half done christmas three in the background. I also really like how these two pictures were taken right after the other and they have such different energies. While the first one transmits peace, the second is more chaotic, like their actual personalities.

  Lets talk about this art on the side of a building in downtown LA by the Staple Center. It was a brisky late afternoon and we were heading to the LA Auto Show because my Hubby and Brother in Law love cars. As we were walking the 2 blocks to the Staple Center I came up this artwork. Obviously, it was in a well lit area with the sun giving us the right amount of light to make me focus on all the colors we see in this image. The sun beam in the image and how the bridge is the center focus and the colors surrounding the bridge bring a lot of depth into this image. Now how can this be created on the stage. I feel that we can use the actor light in a bright color that will draw your eye to the center. Then, to create an ambiance we can use some cool and warm tones like an amber or even a soft pink to draw the eye to where it needs to be focused on. Week 1: Angela- Shadow and Light creates an image

 As I start my 1st yr of grad school, I found myself missing things that make my heart happen. The obivous one is my husband Christian. If we want to talk about light... he lights up my life so much. I find it hard to not be living with him because he too is pursuing his dreams and will start applying to universities for his BS in Astrophysics.  The image above reminds me of the walks with would do when we first started living together. We would walk about the boardwalk or the park. I would find myself staring at the ground looking at everything. With this image I noticed how the sunlight created these interesting images on the ground. It was peeking through whatever the leaves and branches were not covering. I looked at this contrast of shadow/light and it made me think of how could this be used in a play or musical. How would this image make the story progress? Week #4- Angela Cruz- Texture

  This photo is taken from my the airplane window as I was leaving San Andres, Colombia. This was my first trip ever to South America in the summer of July 2021. My husband and I went for a wedding of our friends. They decided to tie the knot in the groom's homeland. As we were taking off from this island and heading to Medellin, I looked over to this lovely island and took a picture. Now, since it has been months of this memory, from a lighting perspective I can tell the many layers of texture this image has.  On the left side of the image there are variations of blue, light green and black. I feel that they blend together endlessly. The natural light hits parts of the ocean that give depth to the sea, sand and buildings surrounding the ocean. So rather than it looking flat, you can see the movement in the sea and even in the bottom right of the image it looks smoky.  At the top part of the image, there is less natural light which makes the variations of blue look like i...
