Week #5 - Kristin - Knotts Scary Farms

This week I went to Knotts Scary Farms for the first time. It was definitely creepy and unsettling! While I was waiting in line for the Paranormal Maze, I noticed all the different lighting instruments being used to light the attractions around the park. I chose this image because I was intrigued by the use of pink to light the maze building. Normally, I think of pink as a positive color. I remember how many of my classmates have used pink for their compositions to create a romantic feeling. This use of pink, however, was used to create an eerie, spooky feeling. I love how saturated the color is on the wall. The angle of the light cast our shadows against the building, helping to insert the riders into the creepy narrative. I also noticed the use of different sources included in the compositions, such as the warm lanterns on the columns.  These lanterns aided in creating the haunted ambience of the paranormal maze. All of the lighting elements of Knotts Scary Farms reminded me of our Halloween projects and got me thinking about our site specific blog for next week.

  1. Nice post - I get the use of the word Pink but I do think it is too dark for that - maybe fuchsia :) Really nice post - so glad you are seeing lighting so well and its contribution to mood
