Christmas in Downtown Disney - Vivian Juarez

 



For this week's blog I went to Downtown Disney. They have recently put up all their Christmas decorations and it looks very fun and whimsical throughout the stores and walk areas. For the overall theme the 3rd photo best encompasses what I think the Lighting Designers were going for. They are going for this overall fun, cooky, colorful, and merry palette that I think reads well. Throughout the area they use quite a bit of this red lighting, as you can see in the first and 3rd photo. To me this color of red does say "CHRISTMAS" to me, which is exactly what they were going for. It put me in an overall good and cheerful mood, and honestly started getting me excited for the holidays. The first photo is front the Disney store and again, they are set up now with their Christmas decorations. I think the lighting here both is used to show off the mannequins but also gives the shoppers the added holiday experience. This look is the first one you see when you walk into the store and it shows Christmas off really well and probably helps shoppers start thinking about Christmas shopping. The color choice is fun and merry and pairs well with the rest of the store. The second image was taken inside the lego store and honestly there is not much lighting change in the lego store, lighting in their is overall very brights and just shows off products. I know displaying products is the main purpose of the store, but overall the bright lights felt really overwhelming to me and I wish that it these smaller displays, like the one  I took the photo of had more special lighting to show it off. I felt that it was hard for something to catch my eye in the store since everything is lit the exact same way and I wish that the displays had some color to them. Maybe if they added some small lights with gels it would help to show off the products even more and make me feel more excited to buy one of their lego sets.

    Overall good work analyzing the two stores. The overall was supposed to be a photo of a larger area of Downtown Disney so we could get a bigger feel for it. You analysis on all of it is good so I only marked you down a little for that.

  Lets talk about this art on the side of a building in downtown LA by the Staple Center. It was a brisky late afternoon and we were heading to the LA Auto Show because my Hubby and Brother in Law love cars. As we were walking the 2 blocks to the Staple Center I came up this artwork. Obviously, it was in a well lit area with the sun giving us the right amount of light to make me focus on all the colors we see in this image. The sun beam in the image and how the bridge is the center focus and the colors surrounding the bridge bring a lot of depth into this image. Now how can this be created on the stage. I feel that we can use the actor light in a bright color that will draw your eye to the center. Then, to create an ambiance we can use some cool and warm tones like an amber or even a soft pink to draw the eye to where it needs to be focused on. Week 1: Angela- Shadow and Light creates an image

 As I start my 1st yr of grad school, I found myself missing things that make my heart happen. The obivous one is my husband Christian. If we want to talk about light... he lights up my life so much. I find it hard to not be living with him because he too is pursuing his dreams and will start applying to universities for his BS in Astrophysics.  The image above reminds me of the walks with would do when we first started living together. We would walk about the boardwalk or the park. I would find myself staring at the ground looking at everything. With this image I noticed how the sunlight created these interesting images on the ground. It was peeking through whatever the leaves and branches were not covering. I looked at this contrast of shadow/light and it made me think of how could this be used in a play or musical. How would this image make the story progress? Week #4- Angela Cruz- Texture

  This photo is taken from my the airplane window as I was leaving San Andres, Colombia. This was my first trip ever to South America in the summer of July 2021. My husband and I went for a wedding of our friends. They decided to tie the knot in the groom's homeland. As we were taking off from this island and heading to Medellin, I looked over to this lovely island and took a picture. Now, since it has been months of this memory, from a lighting perspective I can tell the many layers of texture this image has.  On the left side of the image there are variations of blue, light green and black. I feel that they blend together endlessly. The natural light hits parts of the ocean that give depth to the sea, sand and buildings surrounding the ocean.
