Week #4 - Kristin - Texture
This week, I went to the beach with the Tomo no Kai club. We arrived around 3pm, and as soon as I saw the ocean, I was in awe of the way the sunlight was bouncing off of the water. The light created a beautiful, shimmering texture on the moving waves. It looked like a painting! I found it interesting how some waves caught more light than others. I believe this is because of the height and angle of the different waves compared to the angle of the sun. I understand that we can create different light textures on stage using gobos, props, and fabrics. I wonder how I could replicate these ocean waves? This image definitely spurs my imagination!
Replicating waves/water in theatre has been attempted so often over the years to varying success. It is amazing how something so simple in nature can be so hard to replicate in theatre. With modern technology it has gotten easier but probably the easiest way is with projection, which is, of course, cheating :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice image and post!
