Week #2 - Inspiration from my balcony - Kristin

I walked out on to my balcony with my dog this afternoon and was struck by the beauty of the blue sky and the shimmering light bouncing off the buildings as it approached golden hour. This lighting inspired me to imagine how I could replicate that experience on stage. Seeing the light reflect off of the different windows and street lamps of the city filled me with a sense of adventure and optimism. I was intrigued by how the light looked different when it reflected off of various objects. The color, the brightness, and the overall quality of the light were all affected by the color and texture of the different surfaces. For example, the light reflected off the street lamps was warmer and less shiny than the light that reflected off the cool blue office windows higher up in the sky. I am inspired to become a lighting designer that is able to work with the costume designer and props designer to create this same effect on stage!
