Vivian Juarez Blog #4- Texture in Flowers

I took this photo of a bird of paradise from my grandma's garden earlier today and immediately loved the texture on the petals and the GOBO effect from the bougainvillea bush right next to it. There is a huge bougainvillea plant next to where the birds of paradise are and where the sun light was hitting the plants it created a GOBO effect on all the flowers, including this one, it is a little less noticeable because of how zoomed in the photo is, but it's there. The way the sunlight is hitting the petals also emphasized the texture and color on the petals. Thanks to the light, you are able to see all the ripples, ridges, and line work on the petals which, to me, emphasized their beauty even more. Lighting allows for us to highlight and create textures where we want them in order to better tell the story. To me this lighting shows off the intricacy and beauty that exists naturally in nature.
